Basia Leinkram Lecture Series

together with

The Jewish Museum's Melton Program

Invite you to enjoy a play reading: Edward Kemp's translation of Gotthold Ephraim Lessing's 1779 play of

Nathan the Wise

By special arrangement with Dominie Pty Ltd

Directed by George Werther

The reading will be followed by a discussion led by Deborah Stone,
Literary Editor of the Australian Jewish News

Lessing's 18th Century masterpiece is a passionate plea for religious tolerance. The play expresses in a light hearted way themes of ethics and religious philosophy that are relevant in today's world. It takes place in Jerusalem in the 12th Century centered around Saladin (a Muslim Templar Crusader) and Nathan (a Jewish merchant and sage).
